Karl-Heinz Lambertz is a Belgian politician holding a Master's degree in Law with an additional specialization in German Law. He was the Minister-President of the Government of the German-speaking Community of Belgium for 15 years and became President of the Parliament of the German-speaking Community in 2014. He has been a member of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) since 1999, where he was President of the PES Group for 5 years, before becoming First Vice-President of the institution in 2015. Within the CoR he is particularly active in the Committee for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC) and the Committee for Environment, Climate Change and Energy (ENVE).
He is also very active in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe where he is President of the Socialist Group. On 17 July 2008, he was one of three senior Belgian politicians commissioned by King Albert II to investigate ways of enabling constitutional reform talks in the light of the long-running Belgian constitutional crisis.
